500th Millionaire Celebrations

The following day's issue of The Daily Mail newspaper featured a double page article by Bill Mouland, Peter Allen and Emily Wilson covering the event. The article contained a list of the 42 people who attended and is reproduced without permission below (though the Daily Mail probably got the list from a Camelot press release anyway and I've formatted it for nicer reading).

• At the time of the celebrations, there had been 565 jackpot prizes in excess of £1 million, but obviously up to 65 of them had been won by syndicates which had divided the jackpots into less than £1 million per member and hence the reason for the belated 500th millionaire celebrations.

• The future daughter-in-law of Brenda Scorer (20-year-old Samantha Cannon) was inexplicably included in the line-up, but she hadn't won anything ! Also, Carla Bunting didn't win anything apparently - she's just the daughter of Pauline Bunting.

• Considering that it was celebrating the 500th individual millionaire, Camelot hugely cheated by including syndicates and husband/wife winners, many of whom didn't actually win £1 million or more individually.

• The pub syndicate from Dartford won the jackpot twice in the same draw (they accidentally repeated the winning line).

• The Daily Mail printed Doug Woods' jackpot win incorrectly - they said it was £2,618,192 (the 8 and the 1 were transposed). The newspaper also printed the "total" as being £85,064,733 (as a huge banner across the top of the article), but I've no idea where they got that from. It doesn't add up if you include the transposition mistake or if you exclude the syndicate absentees. My total is simply a sum of the individual jackpot prizes for each of the draws, but that's not strictly accurate either because not all the syndicate winners were there at the celebrations.
