What's New On These Pages: August 2000
Next month: September 2000
- Wednesday 30th August
It was moderately busy in the chat room as the draw approached,
although as usual almost everyone scarpered as soon as the
balls came out. The TV show commentary and draw went fine and
Camelot had the full results quickly for change (within 30
minutes), so I put them up before anyone else.
- Saturday 26th August
It was quiet in the chat room at the start of the lottery show,
but some 6 or 7 people dropped in for the main draw and then,
just as quickly, disappeared again. No problems with the TV show
commentary or draw, but Camelot took their usual 50+ minutes
to release the main lottery results (and over an hour for the
Thunderball results), but I still them up before anyone else.
- Wednesday 23rd August
I suspect that tonight's rollover got swamped by the
news that neither lottery licence bid had succeeded today,
but I was in there soldiering away in the chat room, which
was reasonably busy with people, no doubt attracted by
the controversy :-)
The live commentary of the TV show and draw went fine and
I updated the pages before anyone else. I got on the
Andy Peebles radio phone-in today to give my views on
the lottery on BBC Radio North tonight (and managed to
slag off Microsoft in the process :-) ). Bought two
extra tickets for tonight's lottery of course.
- Saturday 19th August
Obviously everyone's thoughts had turned to football today,
because the chat room was pretty quiet again. No problems
with the live commentary and draw tonight, although there
was a joker making up the jackpot and number of winners
(which I told him off about - BBC 1 didn't do their update
until after the [repeated] movie tonight, so this guy was
trying to hoodwink people).
It didn't help that Camelot were a bit slow issuing the
results - I only got them just before 9.00pm, but was
still the first to put them up anyway.
- Wednesday 16th August
It was pretty quiet in the chat room prior to the draw,
although a few "last minute entrants" made their appearance
to watch those Java balls come out. No major problems with
the live commentary or draw and I was the first to put up
the full results, even if Camelot was a bit slow (45 minutes)
to release them.
- Saturday 12th August
The lottery chat room was fairly quiet (yet more live
soccer - this time Spurs on Channel 5 - was competing with
the lottery show), but the live commentary and draw went
fine. I was the first to put up the full results, despite
Camelot taking almost 55 minutes to issue them to me.
- Wednesday 9th August
Tonight was "eventful" to say the least. The chat room was sparsely
populated as I launched into the usual live TV show commentary and
draw, both of which went fine. Just as I finished the live draw,
one of our pieces of network equipment failed and our net connection
disappeared to the site - we sorted it out fairly quickly considering
it was outside our normal support hours, but it still meant the
post-draw chat, well, there wasn't one really (I had the full results
up only a few minutes after the BBC 1 lottery update, but it still
took a while after that to restore the net connection).
- Saturday 5th August
The chat room was moderately busy tonight and the live
commentary and draws went well. Sadly, Camelot decided
to take just over an hour to release the full
results, so BBC teletext beat me to them.
- Thursday 3rd August
Bought another two tickets for Saturday's rollover and
also scanned in the last two Camelot cheque's I received.
- Wednesday 2nd August
The chat room waa reasonably busy tonight (though
Channel 5 gave it some competition with their live Aston Villa
vs. Celta Vigo game) and the live commentary and draw went
fine. I was the first to put up the full results.
