What's New On These Pages: November 1994
Next month: December 1994
- Wednesday 30th November
Changed the layout of the CGI-generated Lottery Check page, using a horizontal
line instead of a row of equals to separate the totals from the comparisons and
also putting the footnote text after the results table. Monetary amounts now
have commas to separate the thousands and millions fields. Added an option to
the Find Out If You've Won ! page
to allow users to display any set of winning numbers in the grid.
Really improved the Winning Numbers page so that
the old results archive page is no longer needed - they can be accessed from
highlighted links on the Winning Numbers page now. The most frequent winning
numbers are highlighted in bold and there's an averages row of winning numbers,
jackpots (based on the totals of all the jackpot pools divided by the total
number of jackpot winners) and jackpot winners. Again, moved footnotes below
the table for neatness.
- Monday 28th November
Uploaded stats for
Lottery #2. Updated this week's and last
week's results pages. Regenerated frequency analysis (er, fixed a couple of
bugs with that too). Started a new set of results archive pages. Scrunched up
top-level page, ready for that GIF I've been promising.
- Friday 25th November
Reduced the top-level page link highlighting and
added a new link to the
Numerical Analysis
pages, which are deliberately
sparse to allow the data to be loading into your favourite plotting program !
Note that the frequencies exclude the bonus numbers because they rarely
count towards a prize. Added a
pretty GIF
of the frequencies of the winning numbers, just in case someone finds the raw
data boring.

New
Find Out If You've Won ! page
gets around stupid forms problems - did you know that
most browsers only allow ONE submit button per page (because they ignore
the NAME field) ? New form also allows a range of lotteries to be checked,
in case you want to go back and check an old set of numbers. Now display
whether selected numbers (must select 6 for this) conform to my
number selection strategy. Note that any set of
previous winning numbers won't conform because I look back through the
history of results.
- Monday 21st November
Updated info for
Lottery #1.
Re-wrote CGI lottery script in C, so
now much faster response time. Added the ability to fine-tune the random
number generator to conform to my number selection strategy.
Now allow 1 or more
numbers to be selected, so that previous winning performances of individual
numbers can be checked, although if exactly 6 aren't selected, a warning is
issued. Updated
this week's draw details
page and, of course, added this What's New page. Also added a
last week's draw details page with the full
results of the first ever draw. Fixed prize calculation bug in new C code
(so much for testing, huh ?). Discovered that many older browsers are
totally rubbish when handling forms VALUEs (even mosaic 2.4 !!) - I'll
find a workaround if it kills me...
- Friday 18th November
Fixed a few typos here and there. Uploaded
How To Play leaflet instructions.
Filled in more details about of the
chances of winning.
- Thursday 17th November
Amazed that no-one else had created a UK National Lottery WWW page, I set one
up in the space of a day and announced it to the Usenet comp.infosystems.www.*
newsgroups. It included instructions pages and a clickable form that allowed
you to check if your 6 numbers had won (filled in with dummy winning numbers
initially) or generate 6 random numbers for yourself.
