- Wednesday 30th December
I was preparing to use an alternative workstation for lottery page updates
(my work machine was one of the ones hit by the fuses blowing on Monday),
when a colleague came to the rescue and went into the building and
reset/restarted everything.
Despite the chaos at the work building (I wasn't there - I've been at home
over Christmas), the live TV show commentary and draw went ahead OK, albeit
with only 4 or 5 people in the room (a few less than usual). I got the full
results up before anyone else and also talked with Camelot about the
rumoured "Millennium Draw", which was a load of hogwash cooked up by the
press apparently.
- Monday 28th December
We had three fuses blow at our work building, which knocked out most of
our intranet (luckily not affecting the Internet side). No-one was there
of course - we shut down over Christmas and left things to run unattended -
so it didn't come back quickly.
- Saturday 26th December
The chat room was moderately busy - not bad considering it's in the middle
of the Christmas period.
The live TV show commentary and draw went fine, although Camelot took an
age to give me the full results (over 40 minutes), so I only tied with
ITV teletext for them (but still beat BBC teletext).
- Wednesday 23rd December
Our Net connection died for about an hour just before 7.00pm tonight,
but I contacted our ISP and got it restored, just in time for the
live lottery commentary and draw of course...phew ! It was moderately
busy in the chat room during the TV show and the live draw went OK.
The site I picked for the virtual lottery question had been mistakenly
been left off the MerseyWorld database, so I added it in and re-generated
the MerseyWorld A-Z Index just in case people had trouble finding the
answer (the MerseyWorld Search will have it by tomorrow morning).
I updated the full results before anyone else as usual.
- Saturday 19th December
It was reasonably busy in the chat room for tonight's rollover draw
and the lottery show managed to squeeze in four songs, a filmed
report and E17 pressing the button (but thankfully not
singing...) into the 20 minute show.
The commentary of the show and draw went fine, but Camelot took
an age (something like almost 50 minutes) to give me the full
results and by the time I got them up, ITV teletext had them up
too (but BBC teletext were still showing the 12th December
full results and hadn't even blanked them out for today like they
usually do !).
- Friday 18th December
Bought two more tickets for tomorrow's rollover.
- Wednesday 16th December
It was fairly busy in the chat room for tonight's TV show and draw
commentary, which I completed fine. I had the full results up faster
than anyone else again. I think I've finally squashed the bug with
the Merlin machine - I was using a constant value 3 in some of the
code for loops, rather than the definition MACHINES [aka 4] that I'd
defined ages ago. Merlin is machine number 4 in my code, so it was
getting ignored.
- Saturday 12th December
It got fairly busy in the chat room towards draw time and the
commentary and draw update went fine. I was the first to put
up the full results as usual.
- Wednesday 9th December
The chat rom was reasonably busy for tonight's commentary and draw,
which went OK. I put the full results up before anyone else.
Fixed minor bug with automatic data file line generation when the
machine is Merlin (I'd used an A as its letter in the file instead of
an M !). This means that the machine won't be "unknown" in the future
when Merlin is used.
- Saturday 5th December
People only came into the chat room about half way through the TV show,
but there was a good half a dozen in there when the draw took place.
I got the full results up faster than anyone else as usual.
- Friday 4th December
Received the latest sales figures fax from Camelot and duly updated the
pages.
- Wednesday 2nd December
Had to reboot this Web server just before the TV show
to install an improved kernel configuration (this new 11.0
server has been sluggish over the past few days) and that
seemed to do the trick. About half a dozen people were in
the chat room for the TV show commentary and draw, but
Camelot's own computers must have trouble, because it took
them over an hour to release the full results !
- Tuesday 1st December
Received the latest sales figures fax from Camelot and
duly entered the figures on these pages - it's a bit annoying
that they only seem to be sending me the fax every fortnight now...
