Comments:
- The draw used ball set 3 in the Lancelot machine and the average main Lotto prize was £15.31.
One in every 47.9 main Lotto tickets won a prize (=2.09% of players).
- If all 13,983,816 ticket combinations were additionally purchased for the main Lotto game, they would have made a profit of £12,697,728.
- The prior history of the main Lotto jackpot ticket included one win of £10.
- Dale Winton temporarily took over the hosting of the
lottery TV show for this draw and the next one.
- This was the first time that 6 of the 7
winning numbers were odd.
- Despite record
ticket sales
for a single rollover week (beating the previous record by over 8m)
and a "medium" set of drawn numbers,
next week's draw will be a double
rollover for only the second time.
- The third largest number of 3-match winners somewhat reduced the
unwon jackpot prize to just under £24m (explaining why my £26m
estimate wasn't reached), which only just put the unwon jackpot in runner-up
spot behind the previous single rollover.
- The average prize was the lowest ever in the history of
the lottery.
- The number 5 burst out of the pack and became the outright most frequent
main number with its 12th appearance.
Even more impressive is its
performance
with the bonus number included - a total of 16 appearances, a clear three ahead
of any other number.
- There are now several
tickets
that have won nine 3-match prizes in the history of the lottery.
- ITV teletext page 123 claimed there were 1,810,385 3-match winners, which
is wrong because that's the total number of winners. It's not the first
time they've made that particular mistake either...
- Only one match on my first ticket and none on my second, so no doubt this
is the start of a losing streak after my recent good fortune.
- £1,106,565 of unclaimed prizes (3.99% of the total prize pool) from this week expired at 11.00pm BST on Thursday 18th July 1996 and have been added to the National Lottery Distribution Fund.
