Comments:

• The draw used ball set 7 in the Guinevere machine and the average main Lotto prize was £22.86. One in every 50.9 main Lotto tickets won a prize (=1.97% of players).
• If all 13,983,816 ticket combinations were additionally purchased for the main Lotto game, they would have made a loss of £8,125,057.
• The prior history of the main Lotto jackpot ticket included 2 wins totalling £20.
• The number 44 has now appeared 32 times since the lottery began, which is four more appearances than any other main number.
• Ticket sales crashed to their lowest level for a Saturday draw in two and a half years (since the first ever Super Draw in fact).
• I matched one number on my first ticket and two number on my second ticket (plus a further two numbers were one out on that second ticket) to continue my dismal losing streak.
• £1,173,760 of unclaimed prizes (2.95% of the total prize pool of this week's Wednesday and Saturday draws) from this week expired at 11.00pm GMT on Thursday 15th January 1998 and have been added to the National Lottery Distribution Fund.
