Comments:

The draw used ball set 4 in the Lancelot machine and the average main Lotto prize was £20.11. One in every 44.8 main Lotto tickets won a prize (=2.23% of players).

If all 13,983,816 ticket combinations were additionally purchased for the main Lotto game, they would have made a loss of £9,941,076.

The prior history of the main Lotto jackpot ticket included one win of £10.

The number 31 has joined the number 44 at the top of the winning number frequency table courtesy of its 48th such appearance.

Ticket sales were the worst for a Saturday draw since way back in December 1994 (only the second month of the lottery !). The only Sunday draw to date had worse ticket sales, but that was because it wasn't televised.

Less than 100,000 ticket combinations have failed to win a prize in any of the 258 lotteries to date.

I matched nothing on my first ticket and one number on my second ticket to continue my record-breaking losing run.

£1,107,510 of unclaimed prizes (2.90% of the total prize pool of this week's Wednesday and Saturday draws) from this week expired at 11.00pm GMT on Thursday 10th December 1998 and have been added to the National Lottery Distribution Fund.
