Comments:

• The draw used ball set 6 in the Guinevere machine and the average main Lotto prize was £25.47. One in every 56.7 main Lotto tickets won a prize (=1.76% of players).
• If all 13,983,816 ticket combinations were additionally purchased for the main Lotto game, they would have made a loss of £5,137,589.
• The prior history of the main Lotto jackpot ticket included no wins.
• Two weeks after this draw, I tracked down the true formula for calculating the jackpot prize (ignoring rollovers/Super Draws) from Camelot - here's the C code:

  The official rule book never explains that the total pool must be rounded down to, yes, the nearest 10p before the individual jackpot prize is calculated as 52% of the total pool (and then rounded down to the nearest pound). No, don't ask me why the first round down is to the nearest 10p and the other to the nearest pound - it's illogical to me. Apparently, I was the only one who quizzed Camelot about this (I hadn't been rounding down the total pool and this was the first lottery which caused a discrepancy if you don't round down), but I suspect very few people in the UK outside of Camelot are checking that the figures match the formula anyway !
• This was the longest gap so far (22 weeks) between single jackpot wins.
• With the number 46 finally appearing after a gap of 24 draws, the number 20 has now gone the longest, 23 draws, without appearing as one of the 7 drawn balls.
• Two matches and a third number one out on my first ticket (but no matches on the second ticket) as I predictably narrowly miss another win.
• £742,134 of unclaimed prizes (2.37% of the total prize pool) from this week expired at 11.00pm GMT on Thursday 14th November 1996 and have been added to the National Lottery Distribution Fund.
