Comments:
- The draw used ball set 1 in the Arthur machine and the average main Lotto prize was £30.27.
One in every 51.2 main Lotto tickets won a prize (=1.95% of players).
- If all 13,983,816 ticket combinations were additionally purchased for the main Lotto game, they would have made a loss of £8,655,539.
- The prior history of the main Lotto jackpot ticket included 3 wins totalling £30.
- Ulrika Jonsson took over the reins for the first of her three weeks as
a guest presenter of the lottery TV show.
- The number 5 joins the number 28 at the top of the winning number
frequency table
with its 19th appearance.
- This was only the second time that 4 of the 6 main numbers had
been "month" (<=12) numbers.
- This was the first time that two consecutive draws both had
consecutive main number triples.
- The individual jackpot prize was the
largest won by 10 or more
jackpot winners in a single draw.
- This was the largest
total prize pool and the third largest
jackpot prize pool for a single rollover draw.
- Scratchcard
sales
dropped by over 10% to their lowest level since the
first week of their introduction.
- ITV teletext page 123 claimed that there were 1,459,533 3-match winners,
which was a typo leaving them 20 short of the real figure...
- This was the fifth draw in a row to have at least one consecutive main
number pair, which is a record.
- A couple of near misses this week as I matched two numbers on two of
my four tickets (no matches on the other two tickets though).
- £704,525 of unclaimed prizes (1.52% of the total prize pool) from this week expired at 11.00pm GMT on Thursday 9th January 1997 and have been added to the National Lottery Distribution Fund.
