Comments:
- The draw used ball set 2 in the Merlin machine and the average main Lotto prize was £31.31.
One in every 69.7 main Lotto tickets won a prize (=1.44% of players).
- If all 13,983,816 ticket combinations were additionally purchased for the main Lotto game, they would have made a loss of £8,758,757.
- The prior history of the main Lotto jackpot ticket included 7 wins totalling £70.
- The 41st appearance of the winning number 37 has left
the numbers 19 and 39 six adrift at the
basement of the winning number frequency
table.
- One of the freakiest ever events of the lottery turned up as no-one
managed to win a 5+bonus
prize in this draw, which has never happened before.
It was also only the third time ever that there were less 5+bonus prize
winners than jackpot winners. The 5+bonus prize pool (actually
£1,327,021.752) was added to the jackpot prize pool (originally
£4,312,820.694) to give an adjusted jackpot prize pool of
£5,639,842.446, which was then split between the two jackpot winners,
giving each of them an extra £663,511 on top of their original prize of
£2,156,410.
- Unsurprisingly, it was largest ever jackpot prize pool for a normal
Wednesday draw.
- This draw had the second lowest number of 3-match winners and the third
lowest number of total winners since the lottery began.
- I matched one number on my first ticket and nothing on my second, so
I was nowhere near the elusive 5+bonus prize either...
- Unclaimed prizes from this draw expired at 11.00pm GMT on Monday 10th January 2000 and have been added to the National Lottery Distribution Fund.
