Comments:
- The draw used ball set 6 in the Guinevere machine and the average main Lotto prize was £27.01.
One in every 39.8 main Lotto tickets won a prize (=2.51% of players).
- If all 13,983,816 ticket combinations were additionally purchased for the main Lotto game, they would have made a loss of £9,039,141.
- The prior history of the main Lotto jackpot ticket included 3 wins totalling £30.
- The number 5 has now joined the
number 44 at the top of the winning number
frequency table
by making its 34th such appearance since the lottery began.
- The winning numbers 7 and 15
have now both failed to
appear for
33 consecutive draws, which is the joint third longest
such absence ever.
- The main number triple 03, 05, 22 is now one
of only 13 such triples to have
appeared three times in
the history of the lottery.
- There are now four ticket
combinations that have
won 14 prizes to date.
- There were record numbers of 5-match, 4-match, 3-match and total
winners for a midweek draw.
- The ticket sales (and hence the
total prize pool) were the highest
ever for a midweek draw.
- I matched two numbers on my first ticket (and was one
out on a third number), one on my second and none on my
third or fourth tickets to continue the agony for another
draw.
- Unclaimed prizes from this draw expired at 11.00pm GMT on Monday 5th January 1998 and have been added to the National Lottery Distribution Fund.
