Comments:
- The draw used ball set 6 in the Vyvyan machine and the average main Lotto prize was £21.58.
One in every 48.0 main Lotto tickets won a prize (=2.08% of players).
- If all 13,983,816 ticket combinations were additionally purchased for the main Lotto game, they would have made a loss of £10,490,974.
- The prior history of the main Lotto jackpot ticket included 10 wins totalling £100.
- The two rarest main numbers, 13 and 21,
made their 65th and 69th
appearances respectively. The
number 13 also moved to within eight of the rest of the pack at the
bottom of the winning number frequency
table after its 75th
such appearance.
- Ticket sales fell heavily to their
second lowest level ever.
- Quite impressively, Lotto HotPicks hasn't peaked yet it appears - it
had record ticket sales for a Wednesday and the highest number of
Wednesday winners in all categories. The game appears to be enjoying about
the same level of popularity as the Thunderball lottery, though note that
these HotPicks gains have been counterbalanced by large falls in both the main
Lotto and Lotto Extra sales.
- BBC teletext page 557 incorrectly stated the number of Lotto HotPicks
Pick 2 winners as 14,742.
- I matched one number on each of my two tickets, so the arrival of
my annual subscription certificate didn't boost my luck at all.
- Unclaimed prizes from this draw expired at 11.00pm GMT on Monday 20th January 2003 and have been added to the National Lottery Distribution Fund.
